After a 7-year hiatus, the much-loved cyclosportive La LOOK is back in Nevers, France this May with distances and challenges for everyone in the heart of Burgundy
Held every Spring between 2004 and 2016, the La LOOK cyclosportive was the perfect opportunity to stretch the legs after a winter of training and enjoy being back in the sunshine on two wheels. Sportsmanship, fun and a shared passion for cycling were the driving forces behind the event, which saw the participation of track star Florian Rousseau and even Jean-Paul Belmondo, and these values are brought back the forefront in the fresh 2022 edition.
Organized by event specialists La French Run in association with LOOK Cycle, this year’s sportive will start from the center of Nevers, Burgundy, on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May. With a choice of road bike routes through the stunning French countryside and an exciting new criterium race, La LOOK is set to make its comeback as one of the big players on the national cycling calendar.
No matter if your goal is to ride off the front or enjoy the scenery from the back of the pack, the three undulating routes will give your legs plenty to contend with on Sunday 22 May. The shortest loop is 50km (31 miles) and features 450m (1500ft) of rolling elevation through the fields around Nevers. Step things up by taking on the 100km (62 miles) option with twice that elevation, or put your fitness to the test with the longest itinerary offered this year: 170km and 1950m of climbing (105 miles, 6400 ft) including a ride along the Pannecière lake.
Aid stations will be provided along the course as well as at the finish line. While longer routes will be electronically timed the short loop won’t, allowing participants to complete their ride leisurely without worrying about the clock or ranking.
In a constant effort to reduce the event’s carbon footprint and with the road cycling routes taking in Natura 2000 listed areas, organizers have implemented a number of measures to ensure the environment we take so much pleasure in pedaling through remains untarnished and unlittered. Carpooling is encouraged within the limits of social distancing recommendations, while the Chef de File cycling jersey included for all participants is produced in Europe. Only fully recycled and recyclable containers and flatware are provided at aid stations and for the post-race meal, with dedicated sorting stations to ensure waste is disposed of correctly. No littering will be tolerated along the route, so pocket that energy bar wrapper and toss it into one of the garbage cans or bags provided along the way.
A brand new event joins the party this year with the addition of an exciting criterium race through the streets of Nevers on Saturday 21 May. Held on a 1km-loop and open to all, this new event is the perfect opportunity to discover the fun of a new discipline in a unique urban setting. The format will include qualification heats and evening finals, all ridden over 30 laps, and will offer separate fixed gear and standard road bike races. Our very own LOOK Crit Team will be on hand to show us how it’s done and offer tips and tricks if this is your first crit event. Join the fun and try your hand at something new!
Online registration for all La LOOK events is open until May 20. You will find all useful information and routes on the dedicated website. Join us in Nevers this Spring and share the joy of experiencing life on two wheels! We’d love to see you there.
